      As established by the supervisory authority, employees of the power supply company cut off the electricity to an elderly woman, citing outstanding debt. At that time the matter of the debt had not yet been resolved. As a result, the pensioner’s apartment was left without heating — the only source of heat in the home was an electric convector.

      Finding herself in a difficult situation, the woman sought help from the prosecutor’s office. Defending her rights, the prosecutor filed a lawsuit and obtained interim measures. The court ordered the power company to immediately restore the electricity supply.

      In the end the court found the actions of the company’s employees unlawful and granted the prosecutor’s claims. The pensioner was awarded 40,000 rubles in moral damages, and a 20,000-ruble fine was imposed for refusal to voluntarily comply with the demands.
