It is currently causing serious weather problems in the Central Federal District, including in Moscow and the Moscow Region, after which it will shift to the northeast toward Kirov Oblast. According to meteorologists, "Francis" may prove to be stronger than the famous snow cyclone "Volker", which moved across Central Russia in February 2021 and brought record precipitation. At that time, in some regions snow fell for more than 36 consecutive hours, snowdrifts in Moscow in places reached half a meter or more, and visibility on the roads fell to a few hundred meters. The comprehensive forecast for Kirov already indicates a high probability of heavy snowfall today. Particularly intense precipitation is expected on the night of January 9. The forecast chart shows a sharp drop in temperature and an increase in the amount of fallen snow.
