Drivers were reminded of the rules for driving in a snowstorm.
The press service of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Kirov Region reminded drivers of the need to exercise caution during snowfall. According to agency staff, winter weather conditions significantly reduce visibility, worsen tire grip on the road, and increase the risk of traffic accidents.
Motorists are advised to increase the distance and lateral spacing between vehicles, especially when there is slushy snow on the roadway and visibility is limited. This will help avoid collisions during sudden braking.
Special attention should be paid to visibility: windshield wipers must be in working order, and the washer reservoir should contain antifreeze fluid. Clean windows significantly improve driving safety in difficult weather conditions.
The State Traffic Inspectorate also recommends using the accelerator and brake pedals as smoothly as possible. Sudden maneuvers, accelerations, and braking on a snowy road can lead to skidding and loss of vehicle control.
In addition, drivers are reminded to switch on their low-beam headlights, and in heavy snowfall — when necessary — to use fog lights so that the vehicle is visible to other road users. Before setting off, it is also recommended to check the condition of lighting and electrical equipment.
The State Traffic Inspectorate emphasizes that following these simple rules will help reduce accidents on the roads during the winter period.
