A powerful solar flare has occurred; storms and auroras are possible.
A powerful M7.24-class solar flare with an ejection of material toward Earth has been recorded near the Sun’s central meridian, reports the Telegram channel "Amateur Meteorology in Kirov."
According to observations, the flare occurred on December 31, 2025. In the image obtained by the SDO space observatory, the active region and a bright plasma ejection are clearly visible — these kinds of events most often cause geomagnetic storms on Earth.
The solar disturbance is expected to reach our planet’s magnetosphere in 2–3 days. During this period a geomagnetic storm and the appearance of an aurora are possible. Specialists are currently clarifying whether the northern lights will be visible in Kirov Oblast — much will depend on the strength of the geomagnetic storm and weather conditions.
