In the autumn, residents of the Kotel’nich district and ONF activists noticed that a foul-smelling swamp had formed near the village of Makarye close to the Kotel’nich–Darovskoy highway. According to eyewitnesses, liquid waste that resembled whey was regularly discharged there. During rainy periods it could get into the Kurinka River.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection responded to the complaint. Together with police officers, an inspector went to the site, documented the pollution, and took water and soil samples. After that, an unscheduled inspection was carried out of the company engaged in processing dairy raw materials.
The inspection revealed violations of environmental protection laws. It turned out that wastewater from the treatment facilities was being discharged into the river in excess of permissible limits. In addition, an illegal dumping of waste in the forest was recorded, which led to soil contamination and the formation of the swamp.
As a result, the company was fined 100,000 rubles. In addition, it was ordered to clean up the site of the waste and to bring the operation of the treatment facilities into compliance with legal requirements.
