A female inmate from the Kotel'nich penal colony was allowed home for the New Year holidays.
A woman serving a sentence at Correctional Colony No. 33 in the city of Kotelnikh was able to travel home for several days. Such leave was granted to her as an incentive for good behavior and a responsible attitude to work, the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Kirov Region reported.
Before the trip she was given a briefing, issued a special identification document and reminded of the rules: during the leave she is required to call the colony daily, be at home at the designated times, and staff may check on her at her place of residence.
Permission for such outings is granted by the head of the colony taking into account the severity of the crime, the time served and the convict’s behavior. Time spent at home is credited toward the overall term of the sentence.
Ahead of the New Year the woman spent the leave with her family and returned safely to the institution. The Federal Penitentiary Service notes that such measures help inmates maintain ties with relatives and reduce the risk of reoffending after release.
