Women in Kirov Oblast spend twice as much time on domestic work as men.
Kirovstat published the results of a sample survey of daily time use by the population of Kirov Oblast for 2024. The study was conducted in August–September last year among residents of the region aged 15 and over.
According to the statisticians, the structure of daily time use differs noticeably between men and women. On an average weekday men spend about 20% of the day on paid work, while for women this figure is roughly 13%. At the same time, women spend twice as much time on household chores — about 17% of the daily time budget, whereas men spend around 8%.
On a weekday men sleep on average 8.5 hours, work 5.5 hours and devote about one hour to household chores. Women also sleep about 8.5 hours, but spend about 4 hours on paid work and almost 2 hours 40 minutes on housework. In addition, women on average spend more time on the care, education and upbringing of children — 20 minutes per day versus 7 minutes for men.
Differences persist on weekends. According to Kirovstat, female residents of the region have on average 4.5 hours of free time, whereas men have about 5.5 hours.
As the statisticians note, minor discrepancies between the total values and the sum of the indicators are explained by rounding. The next survey of the population’s daily time use is planned to be conducted in 2029.
