A man from Kirov lost more than 4 million rubles after falling for a "premium SUV" from Korea.
As reported by the regional office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a man from Kirov found a website offering the sale and delivery of vehicles. He left his phone number, after which a "manager" contacted him and offered to sell him a premium 2022 SUV.
After watching a demonstration video the man suspected that the car was not in as perfect condition as claimed. However, his doubts were allayed by promises of free delivery "from South Korea," and he agreed to the deal.
The buyer signed a contract and transferred a down payment to the company's account — 4,315,000 rubles. In return he received a packet of documents that was supposed to confirm the transaction. When the fraudsters requested another 600,000 rubles, the man decided to double-check the information and contacted the person listed in the documents as the company owner. That person said he had long since sold the business, and the company had never been involved in selling cars.
Realizing he had fallen victim to fraud, the man went to the police. A criminal case has been opened under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — fraud on a particularly large scale.
