A woman from Kirov lost 9,000 rubles after believing in "dividends for those born in the USSR."
The Kirov Region police department reported a new fraud scheme that befell a 55-year-old Kirov resident. The woman saw an online advertisement offering dividend payments from a large company to those born during the Soviet era. To receive the money she was asked to follow a link and fill in her personal details.
After that, a man who introduced himself as a company employee contacted the woman. He said that in order for the dividends to be credited she needed to make a "payment" of 9,000 rubles. Trusting the stranger, the woman transferred the specified amount.
When the "employee" demanded another transfer, the victim suspected a scam and reported it to the police. An investigation is underway. The question of initiating a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud") is being considered.
