Road crews spread tons of salt across Kirov.
Street and sidewalk clearing continues in Kirov after the recent snowfall. Contracted organizations working under a maintenance contract for the street and road network are focusing on clearing sidewalks, stops, approaches to pedestrian crossings and other important areas, the city administration reported.
According to Deputy General Director of JSC Gordormoststroy Vyacheslav Abramchuk, about 100 tons of rock salt and 50 tons of sand-and-salt mixture were used on sidewalks and roads over the weekend. Pedestrian areas paved with cobblestones were also treated with a mixture of granite grit and a de-icing agent to prevent slipping.
Ramps, parking bays and snow banks are being cleared. Over the past 24 hours, during the daytime shift 60 pieces of equipment and 110 road workers were working on the streets, and at night 60 pieces of equipment and 60 manual-cleaning specialists.
Deputy Director of the Department for Urban Improvement Maxim Egorov said specialists drive around the city daily and check problem areas. Complaints from Kirov residents are still being received, mainly about the condition of sidewalks. Contractors have already been issued directives, and failure to meet the requirements could result in fines.
Due to the expected thaw, contracting organizations have also begun clearing storm drain grates of snow to prevent possible flooding, the city administration’s press service reported.
