In the Kirov Region, doctors saved a patient with a unique blood composition.

Emergency care was required for a man with a gastric hemorrhage who was hospitalized in one of the central district hospitals. Medical staff turned to the regional blood service for support.

As the chief physician of the Blood Center, Andrey Tarasov, said, the patient was found to have anti-erythrocyte antibodies, which required an individualized selection of donor material. During testing, specialists detected antibodies to the V antigen of the Rh system, which is found in only 3% of people.

Despite the rarity of the case, the center's specialists were able to select four units of fully compatible blood components from the available stock. The recipient received a transfusion and a timely operation, after which his condition stabilized — the man has now been moved to a general ward.

The Ministry of Health of the Kirov Region noted that the Blood Center's laboratory identifies antibodies to 28 key red blood cell antigens, meeting the needs of all medical institutions in the region. More than 8,000 patients receive transfusion care annually in the Kirov Region.
