In Kirov Oblast, 1,300 people are engaged in science.

      Researchers make up the largest group among them — 40% of the total. One in three of them holds an academic degree: 47 Doctors of Science and 144 Candidates of Science. Support staff account for 20%, technicians 12%, and other employees 28%.

      Most researchers work in the natural sciences — 37%; technical fields are second (28%), and agricultural sciences third (24%). Medical sciences account for 8%, and social sciences 3%.

      In 2024, 4.35 billion rubles were allocated to scientific research and development in the region. Almost all — 97% — were internal expenditures of organizations. Of these, 79% were current expenditures and 21% were capital expenditures. More than half of current expenditures (57%) were directed to development, 35% to applied research, and 8% to fundamental research.

      The main source of science funding remains budgetary funds — 65% of the total (2.75 billion rubles), of which 76% are grants, subsidies, and competitive funding.

November 10 marks World Science Day for Peace and Development — a holiday that underscores the importance of science in society. According to Kirovstat, by the end of 2024, 1,300 people in Kirov Oblast were engaged in scientific research and development.
