215 kilometers of the Gorky main line have become "velvet".
The main part of the 2025 track maintenance campaign on the Gorky Railway is coming to an end. According to the Kirov division of the Gorky Railway, by the beginning of November 215.6 kilometers of the so-called "velvet" track — a continuous welded rail structure that reduces noise and vibration when trains run — have been laid. Ninety-eight turnouts have also been replaced.
Repair work is underway on the Orichi–Strizhi, Strizhi–Lyangasovo, Lyangasovo–Pozdino and Falenki–Yar sections in the Kirov region, as well as in the Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir and Sverdlovsk regions, the Republic of Mari El and Udmurtia.
Railway workers are refurbishing the track superstructure, cleaning the ballast, welding joints and laying new rails. In total, by the end of the year 245 kilometers of track are planned to be modernized on the Gorky mainline, and medium repairs carried out on almost another 92 kilometers.
