The cursed 'zebra': residents of Urvantsevo are afraid to cross the street.

      In the area of building No. 15 on Entuziastov Street, accidents involving pedestrians occur regularly. According to witnesses, this stretch of road has long become dangerous. Drivers often fail to yield to pedestrians, and traffic accidents happen regularly.

      In just one week several people were injured here. On October 13 the driver of a foreign car did not yield to a woman with a child – the six-year-old girl sustained injuries. Four days later a 47-year-old woman was hit and thrown over the hood of a car. She survived but will spend the coming months on crutches.

      According to local residents, hundreds of people cross the four-lane road every day: parents with children, employees of nearby businesses and visitors to the clinic. However, they say the crosswalk “only performs its function nominally.” Residents are convinced the problem could be solved by installing a traffic light with a push button, traffic violation cameras, or speed bumps.

      Activists of the People’s Front said they had sent appeals to the Kirov administration and the traffic police. The mayor’s office said the issue of safety on this stretch would be considered when developing the traffic management plan.
