Ministry of Education: There will be no Unified State Exam in spiritual and moral culture.

The Russian Ministry of Education denied reports that schoolchildren would have to take the Unified State Exam (EGE) in the new subject "Spiritual and Moral Culture of Russia" (SMCR).

The ministry stressed that the knowledge and skills acquired in this subject will be cross-curricular in nature, that is, will become part of students' overall cultural and worldview development rather than a basis for exam assessment.

Recall that earlier Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov, at a forum of history and social studies teachers, said that the new course will be introduced into the school curriculum in the 2026–2027 academic year. The aim of the subject will be to develop students' understanding of Russia's historical, cultural and spiritual foundations, as well as to strengthen their value-based and moral orientations.
