In Russia, people may begin to lose their driving licenses for taking certain medications.

The list may include drugs that reduce concentration — for example, sleeping pills and sedatives, Sergey Leonov (LDPR), head of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, said. The State Duma has already adopted the relevant bill at first reading. The document provides for administrative liability for driving a vehicle under the influence of medications that impair attention and reaction. Offenders could face a fine of up to 45,000 rubles and deprivation of their driving licence for a period of one and a half to two years, RIA Novosti reported. The list of such substances will be approved by the government. To impose a penalty, it must be established that the driver shows signs of intoxication caused specifically by medicinal drugs, and not by alcohol or narcotics. According to Leonov, LDPR proposes additionally labelling the packaging of such products with the warning "contraindicated for driving," so drivers can immediately understand that the medicine is among those banned behind the wheel. The bill was introduced by the government back in the summer of 2023.
