The number of new brands in Russia has dropped sharply.

This is almost three times lower than in the same period of 2024, CMWP consulting firm calculated, Kommersant writes. The decline is primarily due to a reduction in the presence of foreign brands: from January to July no more than ten new foreign brands entered Russia. The most notable changes affected the fashion segment, where shifts in consumer behavior and rising prices have increased pressure on the market. Experts say the difficulties are linked to a high key interest rate, the strengthening of the ruble, and a decline in Russians' purchasing power. In addition, the sector is experiencing systemic problems: raw material shortages, the migration of a significant share of trade online, and the closure of factories of major players. Against this backdrop, the publication notes, many shopping centers are gradually emptying, and retailers are moving their businesses online. At the same time, in the first half of 2025 the country's retail turnover grew by 2% year on year and amounted to 29 trillion rubles. Online sales volume over the same period increased by 36% — to 5.3 trillion rubles.
