The joint project of State Duma deputy Oleg Valenchuk and the regional veterans' organization has already become a cherished tradition. Irina Shubina, chair of the Kirov Regional Veterans' Organization, welcoming the participants, noted that the exhibition-competition has become interdistrict, allowing it to bring together the best practices, original ideas and the most impressive results.
Each delegation vividly presented its team—with costumes, poems, chastushkas and songs dedicated to gardening themes. It was a true theatrical performance in which the veterans themselves became the main protagonists, radiating energy, optimism and a love of life.
"We're all gardeners here. Even those over 90 haven't abandoned their plots and continue to grow vegetables," says Galina Sozonova, chair of the Yaran district veterans' organization. "Every spring we receive seeds from Oleg Valenchuk and are always pleased with the harvest. And of course everyone wants to show off their successes, so we gladly take part in this exhibition."
Growing a harvest is only half the battle. Try describing the process in verse! When asked how they manage to get everything done, the gardeners answered in chorus: "With jokes, songs and banter!" That's what they're like—the ever-cheerful gardeners of the Vyatka region.
"The exhibition-competition 'Vyatka — Hardy Gardeners!' is not just a contest but a symbol of undying enthusiasm, diligence and love for the homeland," Oleg Valenchuk noted. "The veteran gardeners, by their example, prove that retirement is not a sunset but a new dawn, a time to realize creative potential, to exchange experience and pass it on to future generations. Their hard work and optimism inspire and instill confidence in the future."
The evening concluded with a celebratory concert and the announcement of the contest results. Twenty participants whose works were recognized as the best received gifts from Oleg Valenchuk. Audience-favorite prizes were also awarded by the regional veterans' organization.

The Vyatka region has long been famous for its hardworking and inventive people. A vivid confirmation of this was the interdistrict exhibition-competition "Vyatka — Hardy Gardeners!", which took place on September 4 in Yaransk. The event became a true harvest festival, bringing together veteran gardeners from four southern districts of Kirov Oblast — Yaransky, Kiknursky, Pizhansky and Sanchursky.
