Russians are being denied jobs because of their appearance and zodiac sign.

      Every second employer (52%) admitted that they often reject candidates even before the interview — already when reviewing the résumé. Another 23% do this regularly. Only a quarter of respondents (25%) said they had not encountered such a situation. This is reported in a study by Talantix, part of the hh.ru HR ecosystem.

      Most often rejections go to workers (22%), sales and customer service specialists (17%), middle- and senior-level managers (15%), as well as administrative staff and IT specialists (10% each).

      The main reasons for refusals are lack of qualifications and skills (45%), lack of experience (37%) and failing a security service check (35%). In addition, applicants are held back by poor communication skills (31%) and an untidy appearance (21%).

      Less significant factors proved to be education (18%), age (15%) and bad habits (16%). In isolated cases employers pay attention to gender (3%) and even the candidate’s zodiac sign (1%).

      According to the study, requirements depend on the field of employment. Thus, because of lack of qualifications, financiers and accountants (58%), salespeople (57%) and construction workers (57%) are most often not hired. Lack of experience particularly hinders getting a job in the auto business (50%), for managers (48%), logisticians (45%) and in manufacturing (43%).

      Experts note that analyzing the reasons for refusals helps employers more precisely formulate requirements for candidates and reduce the risk of staffing shortages.
