A sentence has been handed down to a resident of Chepetsk who robbed a man in a stairwell.

On the night of February 23 to 24 this year, a 40-year-old resident of Kirovo-Chepetsk met a man in the entrance of building No. 34/2 on Lenin Street in Kirovo-Chepetsk and demanded that he hand over money, but was refused. The resident attacked the victim and with several blows to the head knocked the man off his feet, and then, while suppressing his resistance, stole 2,500 rubles from his pocket. He disposed of the money as he saw fit.

A criminal case was opened against the 40-year-old resident of Kirovo-Chepetsk. He was convicted under paragraph "g" of part 2 of Article 161 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (robbery). Even before the court handed down its sentence, he compensated the material damage.

As a result, the court sentenced the man to two years' imprisonment; however, taking into account the defendant's personal characteristics, the gravity of the offense and other mitigating circumstances, the court applied the provisions of Article 53.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. As an alternative, the imposed sentence was commuted to compulsory labor for the same term, with part of the defendant's wages withheld and paid to the state.
