An illegal dump the size of a football field was found near Kirovo-Chepetsk.

A huge landfill is growing near the village of Pronkintsy in the Kirovo-Chepetsky District. Its area is already comparable to a football field, and the height of the waste heaps reaches that of a two-story house. The dump is located half a kilometer from the railway tracks of Prosnitsa station.

According to local residents, trucks loaded with construction and household waste arrive there daily. Among the refuse are frames, doors, pieces of walls, linoleum, work clothes and paint containers, which are classified as hazardous waste. Remnants from a cemetery have also been found: crosses, wreaths and grave railings. The piles of garbage also contained bags with plastic tableware from shopping centers and documents from a well-known industrial enterprise.

Activists from the People’s Front documented the scale of the dump and handed the materials over to the prosecutor’s office. According to them, some of the waste may have appeared after a major renovation of a kindergarten in the village of Pasegovo; however, the contractor likely breached the terms of the contract and did not take the waste to an official landfill.

The administration of Kirovo-Chepetsky District has promised to restrict truck access to the vacant lot. The Ministry of Environmental Protection, meanwhile, is preparing an inspection.
