Vladimir Yakushev: Municipal deputies address people's pressing problems day after day.

The most successful practices of interaction with voters will be presented by participants in the “People’s Deputy” contest. The launch of the initiative was announced by Vladimir Yakushev, Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia party.

“Municipal deputies, working on the ground day in and day out, solve people’s urgent problems. Many have experience that can increase the effectiveness of decisions made. We urge them to share that experience. In the Year of the Municipal Deputy this is especially important,” he emphasized.

This year, residents of municipalities where no elections of any level are held in the autumn will be able to nominate their candidates for the contest and select leaders among them. The winners’ projects will be scaled up to other territories, and the leaders themselves will have the opportunity to exchange experience with colleagues at thematic forums at the regional and federal levels.

The United Russia initiative, according to political scientist Pavel Danilin, associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation and director of the Center for Political Analysis, will be a timely and practically oriented measure within the framework of the party’s declared Year of the Municipal Deputy.

“The municipal level of government is the foundation where citizens’ most pressing issues are addressed directly: from the improvement of courtyards to the work of utility services. It is here that the quality of a deputy’s interaction with voters is most visible and critically important,” the expert noted.

Registration for the contest will continue until August 31; to participate, an application must be submitted on the website.
