
Drunk drivers will be subjected to new sobriety testing.
From September 1 this year, drivers suspected of being intoxicated will be subjected to a new procedure for testing for intoxication. The interval between breathalyzer tests will be increased; in addition, a deadline for submitting urine for analysis is being set, RBC reports, citing Evgeny Masharov, a member of the Public Chamber of Russia’s commission on public examination of draft laws and other regulatory acts.
Previously, the breathalyzer “blow” interval was 15–20 minutes. From September 1 it will be 15–25 minutes. A deadline for submitting urine for analysis has also been set: within 30 minutes of being ordered. If urine is not submitted within this period, a blood sample will have to be taken.
After the tests are carried out, the medical organization must ensure storage of biomaterials for three months from the date the certificate is issued, and the obtained mass spectra on electronic media for five years. Also, referrals for chemical-toxicological analysis will be required to include information about any medications taken.
