Even fewer trolleybuses: Route 5 in Kirov under threat
The city administration of Kirov presented a draft register of public transport routes scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2026. As explained by the transport department, the document may still undergo changes. Proposed adjustments are currently under discussion, including citizen feedback.
Presently, there is a consideration to cancel trolleybus route No. 5 in favor of bus No. 51 due to 85% duplication. It is planned that instead of Surikova and Nekrasova streets, the route will follow the section from Vorovskogo Street to Shorsa Street via Popova Street. Additionally, large and medium-capacity buses are expected to operate on this route to manage passenger flow.
Moreover, there is a proposal to increase the number of buses, which would reduce wait times by five minutes. Currently, according to CDC statistics, residents of Kirov use route No. 51 twice as often as route No. 5.
The mayor's office also clarified that reducing other routes is not being considered. Approximately three months remain before the lot distribution among carriers. During this time, final adjustments to the route register will be made, taking into account all opinions. At present, the list includes a little over 40 bus routes and five trolleybus routes.
We remind you that earlier reports indicated ongoing cable line repairs in Kirov, resulting in disruptions in electric transport on the streets. Trolleybus No. 4 does not operate at all, and route No. 7 runs only to the station square. The number of vehicles on routes No. 1, 3, 5, 7, and 8 has been reduced.
