Out of the darkness: in two settlements in the Kirov region, streetlights finally lit up.
In 2024, residents of the Skokovy village in the Slobodsky district and the Cooperative neighborhood in Vyatskie Polyany turned to the Kirov branch of the All-Russian People's Front for help. In both localities, there were no streetlights, although poles had already been installed. Local administrations cited a lack of funds in the budgets.
Due to the absence of lighting, residents of Skokovy, which by the way has over 80 private houses, tried not to go outside after dusk. If they needed to go somewhere, people had to use flashlights. There were also cases where a bus driver, in the dark, failed to notice local residents waiting at the stop and drove past.
Residents of the Cooperative street in Vyatskie Polyany also had to move "by feel" or walk toward the railway. They would climb under freight train cars to reach essential social institutions.
In this regard, activists sent inquiries to the prosecutor’s office. The agency ordered the administration of the Slobodsky district and Vyatskie Polyany to take measures. Now, lighting has been installed there.
