A 91-year-old resident of the Kirov region was cheated out of 330,000 rubles.

A 91-year-old resident of Malmyzhskiy District turned to the police for help after falling victim to a remote scam. The woman believed unidentified callers who claimed to be employees of a telephone company and a military prosecutor's office, and lost 330,000 rubles.

The police выяснили that initially, under the pretext of extending her home phone service agreement, the pensioner provided her passport details. An unknown caller assured her that the information had been compromised and that scammers were now transferring money on her behalf to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. To avoid accountability for financing, they advised her to recount her remaining funds and recheck her account numbers. Following the instructions of the scammers, the Resident of Malmyzhskiy District handed over her savings to a young woman who came to meet her.

A criminal case was initiated in connection with this incident. Investigators identified the suspected offender as a 21-year-old native of Nizhny Novgorod, Republic of Tatarstan. Since committing the crime, she had traveled through several regions of the country. In the Vologda region, she was detained by police for allegedly committing several similar crimes.

Kirov law enforcement officers, who were on business trips, interrogated the suspected offender. It was revealed that she had previously accepted a part-time job offer online. Following her supervisor’s instructions, she collected money from victims and sent it using dictated account details. In addition to the Malmyzhskiy District episode, she is also suspected of involvement in at least six similar thefts.

She is currently in custody. The identities of her coordinators are being established, as well as her possible involvement in other crimes against residents of Kirov region and other areas.
