A new coach has joined the "Olympia" hockey club.

      Kirov hockey club "Olimpia" has signed a contract with coach Albert Vafin. He joined the coaching staff and will be responsible for training defensemen. The appointment was announced on the club's official Telegram channel.

      Albert Vafin was born on July 1, 1972, in Kazan. As a player, he played as a defenseman and holds the title of Master of Sports of Russia (1995). He is a two-time national champion: in the 1993/1994 season with "Neftyanik" (Almetyevsk), and in 1994/1995 with "Neftekhimik" (Nizhnekamsk).

      During his playing career, Vafin played for over ten clubs, including "SKA-Metallurg" (Serov), "Mechel" (Chelyabinsk), "Ariada-Akpars" (Volzhsk), "Berkut" (Kiev), "Saryarka" (Karaganda), and "Irtysh" (Pavlodar).

      After retiring, he transitioned into coaching. He has worked with professional teams in the VHL and MHL-A, as well as in sports schools in Kazan, including "Ariada-Akpars," "Ak Bars," "Neftyanik," "Sputnik," SSh "Volna," SSh "Strela," and SSh "Dynamo."

      He received his coaching education at the Volgograd State Institute of Physical Culture and the Higher School of Coaches.
