A resident of Omutninsk beat a acquaintance to death over a refusal to repay a debt.

      On the night of August 18 of last year, a conflict occurred between a 37-year-old resident of Omutninsky District and his acquaintance while they were in a cafe on Stalskaya Street in Omutninsk. The reason was the refusal of one of the men to repay a debt for furniture purchased several years earlier.

      The 37-year-old defendant dealt several blows to the acquaintance's head, causing bodily harm that resulted in serious health damage and the death of the latter.

      A criminal case was initiated against the attacker. He was found guilty under Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in the accidental death of the victim). The court agreed with the prosecutor's opinion and sentenced him to 8 years of imprisonment.

      The man attempted to appeal the verdict to the appellate court, claiming the punishment was too severe, but the guilty verdict was upheld. The resident of Omutninsk will serve his sentence in a high-security prison, where he will be transported under escort.
