
The State Duma approved in the first reading a bill on depriving citizenship for threatening Russia's security.
The State Duma unanimously approved in the first reading a bill to expand the list of grounds for the termination of acquired Russian citizenship. This was reported by the Chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin.
Currently, according to Article 24 of the Federal Law "On the Citizenship of the Russian Federation," citizenship can be revoked for committing crimes specified in 64 articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, including terrorism, espionage, banditry, treason, and other especially dangerous acts.
The new initiative proposes to add another 8 grounds to the list, including:
- committing acts of sexual violence,
- public calls for terrorism, its justification, or propaganda,
- aiding an adversary in actions against the security of the Russian Federation,
- propaganda of Nazi symbols,
- confidential cooperation with foreign structures against Russia's interests,
- assisting in implementing decisions of international organizations in which Russia does not participate,
- calls for activities against the state's security,
- unlawful interference in critical information infrastructure.
According to Volodin, the bill is planned to be definitively considered by the end of July.

Russian citizens who received their passports through naturalization can be deprived of their citizenship for new offenses. The relevant bill was adopted by deputies in the first reading on July 8.
