IK-6 staff member saved a person's life by becoming a stem cell donor.

The Kirov Scientific Research Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency conducted a series of medical procedures involving bone marrow cell transplantation to save a person. Suitable donors among the patient's relatives were not found for the bone marrow harvest. The only possible way to save him was to transplant cells from a non-relative donor. The donor was Alexander Buldakov, an employee of IK-6.

At the Omutninsk Plasma Center "Rospazma" of the FMBA of Russia, the man was awarded the medal "For Assistance to the Donor Movement." As Alexander Buldakov himself admitted, he would do it again, not for the awards but to save a life. He clarified that there is an opportunity for a repeat donation, which could happen in six months, and he, an employee of the penal system, does not rule out donating cells again. "If you can help, you must do it. Because one day, anyone of us could find ourselves in the patient's place," said Buldakov.

Incidentally, he has been a donor for several years. The man regularly donates blood plasma, starting from 2018. At the plasma center, he responded to the offer to join the Federal Register of Bone Marrow Donors. The opportunity arose last May, and Alexander immediately agreed to become a donor for his genetic twin, according to the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Kirov Region.
