Why Women Kill

Why Women Kill

On July 1st, the regional portal Newsler.ru released a documentary film titled "Why Women Kill" (16+) — an honest conversation about life behind barbed wire, the reasons that drive women to commit the most serious crimes, and what happens to them after sentencing.

The heroines of the film are two women from Kirov Oblast. Each is serving time for murder in Correctional Colony No. 33 in Kotelnichsky District. They agreed to candidly share their stories — without excuses or embellishments. About life before the crime and what became the point of no return. About what it’s like to be a mother, wife, and criminal all at once.

Their stories are complemented by comments from a psychologist who works with women convicts, as well as a lawyer and an attorney. The experts help to understand: why do women commit serious crimes? What usually acts as the final straw? Is it possible to get out of here and return to normal life?

This film is an attempt to look beyond the high prison walls. It’s an opportunity to hear stories of those whose voices are rarely heard aloud.
