Kirov is developing a memorial project for its participants
At a meeting with the head of the city administration, the first architectural solutions for the memorial in honor of the participants in the special military operation were presented. MCU Architecture is engaged in the development. It is assumed that the memorial complex will appear in the park near the House of Folk Art — it was from there that buses with mobilized residents of the city left at the beginning of the SVR.
According to Irina Lekomtseva, the chief architect of the project, the memorial will become a place for laying flowers and holding memorial ceremonies. The architectural composition will include a Memorial Wall, steles with the names of the dead, a flag structure and benches.
The authors proposed two design options. The first one has a concrete wall with a three—dimensional metal star and an inscription made of brass letters. The names of the fighters are supposed to be engraved on metal strips fixed on concrete steles. The composition is complemented by a flower garden and lined with black granite, a symbol of sorrow. The use of concrete is interpreted as an image of destruction, and red metal as a symbol of the power of the spirit.
The second version of the project turned out to be more complicated. It includes a bas-relief or sculpture of a fighter, elements of partial granite cladding and lamps in the form of burning candles. The surfaces of the memory wall in this version are made rougher and more broken.
The meeting participants supported the second option, but made a number of suggestions. So, the head of the administration Vyacheslav Simakov proposed to allocate separate steles for the names of those awarded orders and medals. The issue of increasing the space for commemorative events was also discussed.
MCU Architecture was instructed to finalize the project within a month, taking into account all the comments.
