
Cash or cashless: Russians told about their preferences
According to the regulator's website, approximately 10% of citizens made an unequivocal choice in favor of non-cash payment. Almost the same number — 9% — pay exclusively in cash. The respondents mentioned speed, simplicity and convenience in favor of non-cash payment. Most often, Russians pay for goods and services with a bank card when making a non-cash payment.: 77% of the respondents. Mobile transfers and online banking are in second place (44%), and the Fast Payment System is in third (34%).
Cash payment is chosen to a greater extent because of the opportunity to make it anywhere and at any time. A quarter of the surveyed citizens use cash in everyday payments: most often in small shops, markets, gas stations or when paying for public transport. Half of the respondents keep a stock of banknotes and coins with them in case it is not possible to pay cashlessly, and a third keep their savings in cash.
According to a study by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the most popular denominations of banknotes when paying for goods and services are 100, 500 and 1000 rubles. The most popular banknote when withdrawing cash from an ATM is 1000 rubles.
