Quarantine pest found in a batch of lemons from Argentina
In Kirov, a quarantine pest, the red orange scab, was found in a batch of lemons from the Leningrad region and of Argentine origin. The inspection at the fruit and vegetable base was carried out by specialists from the Rosselkhoznadzor and the Kirov branch of VNIIKR.
Experts have found live insects in one ton of fruit. According to their conclusion, the main route of the pest's spread is related to planting material, so infected lemons do not pose a serious threat to the region.
The products were allowed to be sold, but customers were advised to thoroughly wash the fruits with warm water before eating. It should be noted that since the beginning of the year, the Kirov region has received more than 280 tons of infected fruits from different regions of Russia.
