Is Kovaleva going to stand trial?

      The Kirov Regional Court has scheduled an open hearing in the case of challenging the decisions of the City Duma on renaming the central streets of Kirov. The first hearing will be held on June 25 at 10:00 a.m. Elena Kovaleva, the mayor of the city, is among the participants in the process, and she is listed as an interested party. However, as noted by Anastasia Vorobyova, First Secretary of the Kirov City Branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation., 

      Kovaleva will be asked questions about the whole case, the court did not specify what exactly they want to hear from her.

      The plaintiffs are deputies of the Kirov City Duma Anastasia Vorobyeva and Mikhail Kremlev. Anna Manakova participates in the case as their representative. The defendants in the case are the Kirov City Administration, the Kirov City Duma and the Kirov Prosecutor's Office. The Prosecutor's Office of the Kirov region is involved as a prosecutor.

      According to Vorobyova, pre-trial hearings in the case have already taken place. The court granted the request for the recovery of all the sheets collected as part of the public discussion of the initiative. These documents should be submitted on June 25.

      "The administration confirmed that it had centrally interviewed 6,000 schoolchildren," the deputy said. —But when the court asked how many residents of the city participated in the collection of proposals, neither the administration nor representatives of the Duma could answer."

      Also, according to Vorobyeva, the court decided to ensure personal participation in the meeting of the mayor. However, given that a plenary session of the Duma is scheduled for the same day, the deputy assumes that a trusted person can introduce Kovalev.

      Recall that on December 19, 2024, the Kirov City Duma, by a majority vote, decided to rename seven streets, some of which received historical names. This initiative caused a wide public outcry: Kirov residents expressed dissatisfaction with the decision-making process and possible inconveniences associated with the renaming.
