Cybercrime uncovered in Kirov: a resident of Orenburg issued a loan in the name of a local resident

In June 2024, a Kirov resident contacted the police with a statement about the embezzlement of funds. The woman said that she changed her mobile phone number, but did not disconnect the old one from banking services. An unknown person took advantage of this, who restored access to her personal account at the bank, issued a loan in the amount of 337 thousand rubles and cashed out part of the money.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kirov region, criminal cases were initiated under Articles 272 and 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — unlawful access to computer information and theft.

Employees of the cybercrime department have established that the alleged attacker is in Orenburg. The police went on a business trip, where they identified the suspect and detained him. He turned out to be a 21-year-old local resident with no previous criminal record. The young man admitted his guilt.

The investigation is currently ongoing. Law enforcement officers are checking the defendant for involvement in other episodes. He is on his own recognizance for the duration of the investigation.

The police remind you that when you change your phone number, it is important to immediately disconnect it from all online services, especially banking and government services.
