Pobeda illegally reduced the size of hand luggage
The Shcherbinsky District Court of Moscow declared illegal the actions of Pobeda Airlines, which set the maximum allowable hand luggage width at 4 cm, RBC reports. An inspection conducted by the Moscow Interregional Transport Prosecutor's Office revealed that the company had abused the right to set the dimensions of baggage provided for by federal aviation regulations.
As explained in the supervisory authority, the restrictions imposed actually excluded the possibility of carrying things necessary for the trip, which are not subject to restrictions by law. In particular, we are talking about handbags, briefcases, backpacks, children's devices and other personal items.
"Thus, Pobeda deliberately created deliberately unacceptable conditions that exclude the possibility of free transportation of things," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
The press service of Pobeda stated that the court's decision had not entered into force, and the motivational part had not yet been prepared. The company emphasized that passengers have two options for carrying hand luggage: within 4 cm in width or within the 36x30x27 cm calibrator, which is used by 99% of customers. At the same time, transportation of a number of items, such as baby strollers, portmanteaus or backpacks, is allowed if they do not violate safety requirements.
This is not the first case of litigation between Pobeda and the supervisory authorities. At the beginning of 2023, the Supreme Court had already ordered the low-cost airline to lift restrictions on the size of handbags and briefcases, which were recognized as illegal.
Against the background of criticism, the company introduced a branded backpack made of polyester fabric that meets its internal standards: 36×30×27 cm. Passengers with such a backpack are allowed into the cabin without additional checks.
