The season of snake activity has begun in the Kirov region

With the onset of warm weather in the Kirov region, snakes came out of hibernation. In this regard, the Ministry of Environmental Protection recalls the need to be vigilant while relaxing in nature or working on garden plots.

There are three types of snakes in the local fauna: the copperhead, the grass snake, and the viper. The only real danger to humans is the viper, as it is poisonous. The copperhead also has no poison and does not threaten human life and health.

You can distinguish these snakes by their appearance. The snake usually has a dark body and two noticeable yellow or orange spots on the sides of the head. The viper is given out by a characteristic zigzag pattern of dark color running along the entire back, while the basic color of the snake can vary from gray to black. The copperhead is most often gray or copper in color, and on its back you can see a pattern of dark dots arranged in two rows.

Snakes prefer to settle in secluded, shaded and often cluttered places. They can be found under rocks, in piles of branches or old bark, as well as in lowlands densely overgrown with grass and hidden under the shade of trees.

While in the forest or in another natural area, you should carefully look at your feet. If you can't avoid meeting a snake, you don't need to make sudden movements or try to scare it. It is best to slowly and calmly step back or to the side, giving the reptile the opportunity to escape.
