A resident of the Kostroma region was caught cheating pensioners in Kirov.

Police officers of the Kirov region uncovered a series of remote crimes committed under the "Relative in trouble" scheme. The victims were four elderly residents of the regional center who received disturbing calls on their landlines, allegedly from loved ones.

The attackers reported that they had been in an accident and urgently needed money to "solve the problem." They promised that a courier would pick up the cash.

So, an 87-year-old pensioner handed 550 thousand rubles to an unknown man, believing that this money was necessary to stop the criminal prosecution of her daughter. Another case is that a 97-year-old woman gave 190 thousand rubles allegedly for the treatment of a friend who was in an accident.

Operatives identified and detained the suspect, who turned out to be a 17—year-old resident of the Kostroma region, who acted as a courier. According to him, he responded to an offer to earn money online and acted on the instructions of an unknown supervisor from online correspondence. He collected money at addresses in Kirov and transferred it using dictated banking details.

According to police, the young man is also involved in similar crimes in the Kostroma region. A criminal case has been opened against him under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Fraud". The investigation continues, and the identities of other participants in the criminal scheme are being established.
