Allergist warns: Which flowers are dangerous to give on March 8th

Spring and March 8 are the traditional time for flowers, but the joy of a bouquet can be overshadowed by an allergic reaction. According to Gulnara Memetova, an expert at the Hemotest laboratory, allergy to flowers is caused by a protein contained in plant pollen. The allergic person's immune system mistakenly perceives this protein as a threat and triggers an inflammatory reaction.

Daisies, hyacinths, lilies, mimosa and chrysanthemums are especially dangerous in this regard. Their coarse pollen crumbles easily and can cause an allergic person to runny nose, itchy eyes, watery eyes, sneezing and dry cough. In severe cases, swelling and difficulty breathing may occur, requiring immediate medical attention.

To avoid unpleasant consequences, the allergist recommends giving preference to roses, peonies, tulips and dahlias. In these flowers, the pollen is either small or safely hidden under the petals. It is also worth choosing flowers without a harsh and intrusive fragrance, as volatile essential oils increase the manifestations of allergies, even in people who are not prone to it.

The doctor warns that an allergy may occur suddenly, even if there was no reaction before. Many allergens have a cumulative effect. Therefore, if you suspect an allergy, you should exclude possible allergens and consult a doctor. A specialist may recommend an allergy test to identify specific allergens. Fortunately, allergies can be cured, but you need to know what causes them.

Therefore, when choosing a bouquet for March 8, keep in mind the health of your loved ones and give preference to safe colors so that the holiday is not overshadowed by allergies.
