Russians have started to pay more often using QR codes and biometrics.
In the second quarter of 2026, the share of cashless transactions in retail turnover slightly decreased by 0.5 percentage points to 88.4%. This occurred against the backdrop of an increase in the use of cash in April-June.
At the same time, Russians continued to actively use cashless payment methods. The share of alternatives to cards in the total volume of cashless payments increased by 0.2 percentage points to 15.1%.
The use of QR codes and biometrics saw particularly noticeable growth. Over three months, 1.1 billion purchases were made using them, totaling 1.7 trillion rubles. Compared to the first quarter, the number of such transactions increased by 18%, while their volume grew by 13%.
Payment via Bluetooth is also gaining popularity. In the second quarter, Russians made 86 million such transactions worth 64 billion rubles. Their number increased by 30%, and the volume rose by 17%.
Overall, clients of Russian banks—citizens and companies—conducted 32.1 billion transactions worth 491.5 trillion rubles from April to June. Compared to the first quarter, the number of transactions increased by 9.9%, and their total volume rose by 12.8%, reports the Bank of Russia.
