The Bank of Russia has extended restrictions on cash currency withdrawals.
The Bank of Russia has extended the restrictions on cash withdrawals of foreign currency until March 9, 2027. The decision is related to the ongoing sanctions that prevent Russian financial organizations from purchasing cash currency from Western countries.
For citizens whose foreign currency account or deposit was opened before March 9, 2022, there remains the possibility to withdraw the cash amount of the balance as of that date, but not more than 10,000 dollars or the equivalent amount in euros. This rule applies to those who have not previously taken advantage of this opportunity.
Other funds can still be received in rubles. For money deposited in the account before September 9, 2022, the amount paid out cannot be less than that calculated at the official exchange rate of the Bank of Russia on the day of issuance. Funds received after this date are issued at the bank's exchange rate on the day of payment.
Banks have also extended the ban on charging citizens a commission for issuing cash currency from accounts and deposits.
Currency transfers without opening an account and funds from electronic wallets are still issued in rubles. The amount must not be less than that calculated at the official exchange rate of the Central Bank on the day of payment.
For legal entities, the restrictions differ. Non-residents will not be able to receive cash dollars, euros, pounds sterling, and Japanese yen until March 9, 2027. There are no restrictions on other currencies.
Russian legal entities will be able to receive cash dollars, euros, pounds, and yen for business travel expenses only within the established limits for the next six months. The receipt of other currencies is not restricted, provided that the requirements of Russian legislation are met.
