Residents of the Kirov region will have to save for a car longer than Muscovites.

      Auto.ru and hh.ru have updated the Car Availability Index (Index DA), which shows the ratio of the average cost of a used car to the median salary offered by employers in job vacancies. The lower the index, the more affordable the car is.

      In the first half of 2026, on average across Russia, it took 12 median salaries to purchase a used Lada Vesta. A year earlier, the figure was 14.1 salaries. The situation also improved for the Hyundai Solaris: the index decreased from 17.2 to 15.1 median salaries.

      At the same time, the Kirov region, like other regions of the Volga Federal District, found itself in a group of subjects where residents will have to save longer to buy cars compared to residents of several other federal districts.

      How things stand in the Volga Federal District

      According to the results of the first six months of 2026, residents of the Volga Federal District needed an average of 13.6 median salaries to save for a Lada Vesta. This is one of the highest figures among federal districts.

      Only residents of the Southern and North Caucasian districts will have to save longer for a domestic car — 14.4 and 16 median salaries, respectively. In the Siberian district, the figure was 13.2 salaries.

      For comparison, the most affordable Lada Vesta was for residents of the Central district — 10.6 median salaries. In the Far Eastern district, the figure was 10.9, in the Northwestern — 11.6, and in the Ural — 13.

      A similar situation occurred with the Hyundai Solaris. In the Volga Federal District, an average of 17.1 median salaries will be needed for a used foreign car. Residents of the Southern district will have to save more — 18.6 and North Caucasian — 20.8 salaries. In the Siberian district, the figure was 16.6 salaries, in the Ural — 16.2.

      Residents of the Central district will be able to save for a Hyundai Solaris the fastest — 12.9 median salaries. In the Far Eastern district, the figure is 13.6, in the Northwestern — 14.3.

      Cars have become more affordable

      Overall, across the country, the availability of used cars has increased over the year. According to Auto.ru and hh.ru, this occurred against the backdrop of rising incomes with relatively stable car prices.

      The median offered salary by the end of the first half of 2026 reached 87.2 thousand rubles compared to 75 thousand rubles a year earlier.

      At the same time, the average cost of a domestic marker car, the Lada Vesta, with mileage remained unchanged at 1.06 million rubles by June. The price of the Hyundai Solaris increased by 1.5% over the year — to 1.31 million rubles.

      At the beginning of the year, the availability index was significantly higher, but in the spring, the situation began to stabilize. In the last months of the first half of the year, cars became more affordable for both domestic and foreign brands.

      The calculation considered cars aged from three to 10 years, with mileage of no more than 200 thousand km and no more than three owners.
