You can now board the "Swallow" by face.
The Russian Railways has expanded the boarding options for the high-speed "Lastochka" trains using biometrics. Starting from August 18, the service became available on the routes Nizhny Novgorod — Ivanovo and Nizhny Novgorod — Kirov.
Now, residents of Kirov and guests of the regional center traveling to the capital of the Volga region or back can board without presenting a paper passport — the facial recognition system is sufficient.
Previously, biometrics were already in use on the following routes:
Moscow (Yaroslavsky Station) – Kostroma
Moscow (Kursky and Vostochniy Stations) – Ivanovo
Moscow (Vostochniy Station) – Nizhny Novgorod.
To use the service, a passenger must have confirmed biometrics in the Unified Biometric System and give prior consent for its use. At boarding, the camera recognizes the face and matches the data with the ticket information.
At the same time, the traditional boarding method with a paper passport is still available. Russian Railways reminds that the service is operating in test mode, so it is recommended to have a passport on hand.
