Fraudsters left a Kirov company without plywood and 4 million rubles.
In the spring of this year, the manager of a Kirov-based construction materials manufacturing company found an online offer for plywood at an affordable price. The website resembled that of a well-known timber industry holding.
The man contacted the seller and discussed the terms of the deal. The main requirement was a 100% prepayment and self-pickup of the goods. The terms were acceptable to the management of the Kirov company, after which the parties signed a supply contract.
The seller sent the payment documents, and the Kirov firm transferred 3 million 453 thousand rubles to the specified account details. The plywood was to be picked up in the village of Ural in the Perm region.
When the company's driver arrived for the cargo, the plywood was not there. The seller's manager explained this by logistics problems and offered to arrange delivery independently. They demanded an additional 258 thousand rubles for the service.
The entrepreneur transferred this amount as well, but the goods were never delivered. After that, the "manager" stopped responding.
Upon contacting the police, the entrepreneur found out that the accounts to which the money was sent did not belong to the supplying company. The website, apparently, turned out to be phishing.
The total amount of damage amounted to about 3.7 million rubles. A criminal case has been initiated for fraud under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The investigation is ongoing.
