Kirov Region is once again at the bottom of the ranking: the region has become one of the most accident-prone on the roads.
The study is based on data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Rosstat. Experts assessed the regions based on the number of accidents with casualties from January to June 2026, taking into account the number of cars, buses, and freight transport. The Kirov region ranked 80th out of 85 regions presented in the rating. The accident rate was 157 accidents with casualties per 100,000 vehicles. Compared to the same period in 2025, the situation worsened — the number of accidents increased by 12.2%. In comparison, the average figure for Russia was 88 accidents per 100,000 vehicles. The Kirov accident rate is almost twice as high as the national average. The situation was worse only in a few regions. Among the main anti-leaders were the Republic of Tuva (200.6 accidents), Kalmykia (197.5), Kostroma region (186.7), Tyumen region (178.2), and the Republic of Altai (157.9). Previously, the Kirov region had already been among the regions with poor road infrastructure. In the rating by RIA Novosti on road quality, the region ranked third from the bottom — only the roads of two other subjects of Russia were rated worse.

The Kirov region found itself among the regions with the highest accident rates on the roads according to the results of the first half of 2026. In the ranking by RIA Novosti, the region ranked in the lower part of the list — the number of traffic accidents with casualties here amounted to 157 cases per 100,000 vehicles.
