A resident of Kiknur fell for a fake earnings scheme on the stock exchange and set up a comrade for half a million.
The Kirov Region Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia received statements from two residents of the village of Kiknur. The subjects of the story are men aged 39 and 58, who collectively lost more than 600,000 rubles. As police officers found out, both became victims of the same fraudulent scheme that stretched over several months.
It all started with an online acquaintance. The younger of the victims found a conversation partner online in early 2026, who introduced himself as a financial analyst. The unknown person offered to invest about 80,000 rubles in shares of oil companies and cryptocurrency, promising high returns. The man agreed and, following the curator's instructions, downloaded a special application to his phone. He then transferred the required amount according to the dictated details and, as he thought, participated in trading on the financial exchange for six months.
Later, the victim decided to withdraw the supposedly earned 2,000 dollars in cryptocurrency. However, the interlocutor stated that a large sum would be required for this. The man did not have his own funds, so he convinced his 58-year-old acquaintance to give him access to the personal account of the mobile banking application. The first victim logged into his friend's account from his phone.
At this stage, the true nature of the previously downloaded application became apparent. As the investigation established, the program on the device of the Kiknur resident was not a trading terminal but a remote access tool for unidentified individuals. Gaining access to someone else's personal account, the fraudsters took out a loan of 535,000 rubles in the name of the second victim. They transferred this money to the first victim under the pretext of needing it to withdraw earnings. The man, not suspecting any trickery, transferred the entire amount to the unknowns, after which communication with them was cut off.
The true scale of what happened only became clear after both residents of the Kiknur district contacted the police. Currently, criminal cases have been initiated regarding theft from a bank account and fraud causing significant harm to a citizen. Department employees are conducting operational search activities.
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reminds: any offers of quick earnings from stock trading, investments, or cryptocurrency from strangers on the internet are a classic trick. Only specialized professionals can earn income from such operations, not random users. Citizens are strongly advised not to transfer money according to the instructions of outsiders and not to install applications on smartphones sent by little-known online acquaintances.
