35% of Kirov residents approve of the self-employment regime.
The survey involved economically active residents of Kirov. They were asked about their attitude towards the tax on professional income — a special regime for legal entrepreneurial activity without registering as an individual entrepreneur, which has been in effect in Russia since 2019.
It turned out that 35% of respondents approve of the self-employment regime. Among the arguments are convenience for side jobs, a manageable tax rate, and the possibility of exiting the "gray zone." 14% have a negative attitude towards it, pointing to the lack of social guarantees, the risk of substituting labor relations, and the low income limit. Another 51% found it difficult to answer.
Among those who currently have the status of self-employed, the approval rate reaches 64%. Among those who previously tried the regime but closed it, the approval rate is 33%. Among citizens who have never registered as self-employed, only 20% approve of this tax regime, while 64% could not provide an assessment.
According to the respondents, self-employment is often arranged for a specific project or temporary side job. After the activity is completed, the status is usually closed. Reasons for rejecting it may also include employer requirements, difficulties with registration at the employment center, or transitioning to other tax regimes. Overall, many believe that self-employment is rather a forced measure, and most still prefer to work under an employment contract.
