The roads of the Kirov region have been recognized as some of the worst in the country.
Experts assessed the share of regional, intermunicipal, and local roads that meet regulatory requirements as of the end of 2025. According to the study, only 28.6% of such roads in the Kirov region meet the standards. Meanwhile, the density of paved roads is 116 kilometers per 1,000 square kilometers of territory. In comparison, the average figure for Russia reached 55.2%, which is 0.4 percentage points higher than the level at the end of 2024. The indicator for the Kirov region is almost twice as low as the national average. Traditionally, Moscow topped the ranking, where 100% of regional and local roads meet regulatory requirements. The top five also included Chelyabinsk region, the Republic of Ingushetia, Sevastopol, and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. In these regions, the share of quality roads exceeds 81%. The ranking is closed by Arkhangelsk region (17.2%), Volgograd region (26.9%), and Kirov region (28.6%). The authors of the study note that the quality of roads in Russia is gradually improving. If in 2020, 50.4% of regional and local roads met the standards, by the end of 2025, this figure has risen to 55.2%. However, the differences between regions remain significant: the gap between the leaders and outsiders of the ranking exceeds 2.5 times. Recall that earlier Newsler.ru reported that the implementation of the "Road Billion" program continues in the Kirov region. At a press conference in the regional government, it was stated that residents' interest in the project continues to grow: if in 2022 about 9,000 people voted for repair projects, by 2025 this number has already reached 52,000. Initially, the program's funding was 1 billion rubles, but Governor Alexander Sokolov reported that from 2027, the amount of funds will be increased to 1.5 billion rubles. This year, the program plans to repair 145 sections of roads in 100 settlements with a total length of 74 kilometers. At the same time, according to a study by RIA Novosti, the Kirov region turned out to be the third from the bottom in terms of road quality, where only 28.6% of regional and local roads meet regulatory requirements.
