In Kirov, the operation of a sim box was intercepted, through which fraudsters were calling Russians.

      According to the Kirov region's Ministry of Internal Affairs, employees of the cybercrime department conducted operational activities and uncovered the operation of a sim box — special equipment that allows for the management of a large number of SIM cards and their use for calls and messages.

      According to the police, a 20-year-old resident of Kirov is involved in ensuring the operation of the device. Previously, the young man found an online offer for earning money and agreed to follow the instructions of unknown individuals.

      Following the instructions of his curators, he rented an apartment, installed the sim box there, and ensured its operation. Through such equipment, fraudsters could remotely make calls and send and receive messages from a large number of subscribers.

      During a search, police seized the sim box and about a thousand SIM cards. According to preliminary information, at least four crimes were committed against residents of different regions of Russia using them. It was also established that the phone traffic could be redirected to subscribers located outside the country.

      A criminal case has been initiated against the resident of Kirov under part 3 of article 274.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — illegal use of a subscriber terminal for traffic bypass, committed by an organized group.

      The investigation is ongoing. Investigators are establishing other possible crimes that the young man may be involved in, as well as the identities of the other participants in the scheme.
